Brave Brothers Books is a publishing company with the mission of providing diverse books for all readers. This company was co-founded by Jermaine and Shawnta Barnes and named by their identical twin sons, who are featured on the logo.

We are insured to protect our interests and the interests of our authors. This company is not a vanity publisher. This means authors do not pay us to publish their work.

Co-Founder/Chief Executive Officer Shawnta S. Barnes  

Shawnta S. Barnes, also known as Educator Barnes, is a K-12 education consulant through her company Blazing Brilliance LLC, an education writer and Editor-in-Chief for Indy K12, host of the Brazen Education podcast, and the moderator of Indianapolis Recorder’s EdGems.  She is the recipient of the 2019 Indiana Black Expo Excellence in Education Journalism Award.  Shawnta has previously served as a middle school academic dean, an English teacher, English language learner teacher, literacy coach, librarian, and adjunct college instructor. Co-Founder/Chief Financial Officer Jermaine J. Barnes


Jermaine J. Barnes is a senior Oracle database administrator for the State of Indiana. In his spare time, he enjoys playing basketball, sports with his children, and video games. He also enjoys watching action and science fiction movies and anime.

Jerry Barnes and James Barnes are identical twins who are in the fifth grade.  They enjoy playing sports with their dad and gardening with their mom. Their favorite food is pizza, tacos, and Brussels sprouts.

In his spare time, Jerry likes to write, read scary stories and mysteries, play games on his Chromebook, and attend Indiana Pacer basketball games.

In his spare time, James loves watching cartoons on Netflix and writing and illustrating fiction stories.
